Venus transit, 8 June 2004

A rare event, and one of the reasons I wanted my C9.25 to be delivered in early March 2004 so I could practice. A rookie at imaging, I recorded these images with a Nikon D80 and ektachrome 200 slide film, which I later scanned. I'm glad they turned out the way they did, I will only have ONE second chance in 2012!

A great way to start my hobby in astronomy

An image made with the newly acquired ToUcam. At prime focus. The disc of Venus was large enough to be clearly visible.

A second image, same conditions as above

When Venus crossed the solar disc, there was a brief moment when the sunlight was being refracted by the Venusian atmosphere. It is barely visible, but clearly there. The image next to it is shows it a little better

The start of the transit.
